Philip David Phillips an 18 years old University Law student from Armadale Victoria enlisted 31/1/16 at Melbourne. He had prior service with Cadets and Citizen Forces and embarked 20/5/16. Promoted to L-Cpl.
Philips was awarded the MM (L.G. 16/7/18 p 8333, CofA Gaz.27/11/18)
His Citation reads "Under hostile shell fire during the heavy enemy attack this N.C.O. showed initiative and courage on the 30th March 1918 in the vicinity of Vaux-sur-Somme, in repairing quickly telephone lines (between Bde. Hd. Qrs and Batteries) Which were frequently cut-thus enabling valuable targets to be passed to the Batteries at critical times. He exhibited great devotion to duty and disregard of personal danger"
